January Meeting
By Brian Brady
We held our first meeting of the new year on January 19th with about 85 members and a surprising 13 guests in attendance. Dolf Herger and Walter Wild from Snow Rails were there displaying and discussing a new synchronized ski system developed by a Swiss team of engineers, designers and researchers. The goal of this system is to reduce injuries on the slopes by flexibly coupling skis together. You can check it out at www.snowrails.ch.
Once again KOPSC proved how much more than a bunch of ski bums we really are! In a response to the earthquake in Haiti, the Snow Angels collected over $200 for disaster relief from our members and guests at the meeting. They also collected a bunch of supplies for our feline friends at Kitty Cottage, a shelter for abandoned and abused cats.
There were plenty of raffle prizes at the January meeting thanks to donations by local ski shops and ski resorts. Jeri won a gift card to Buckman’s Ski and Snowboard Shops. George won a gift card to Wick’s Ski and Sport. Steve won a ski sharpening and wax, also from Wick’s. Jim won a Blue Mountain lift ticket. Mike won 2 Spring Mountain lift tickets. Lydia, Sue F., Sue S., Dave, Debby and Barbara won bottles of wine or liquor. Jeff won $38 and Erik won the big cash prize of $76.
The next general membership will be February 16, only two days after Valentines Day, so come out and share your love! The Snow Angels will continue to collect non-perishable food items for local food banks. The Programs Committee will be selling KOPSC logo merchandise next to the sign-in table and, of course, raffle tickets for more great prizes.
As always, general membership meetings are held at the Jeffersonville Golf Club on the third Tuesday of each month. Beer, wine, mixed drinks and an assortment of hot and cold food selections are available for purchase.
