What Happened To Summer?

For some time now Ski magazine has been reminding me to renew my subscription.

Almost daily, I receive some sort of flyer in the mail from a local ski shop advertising their preseason ski sale. I have even been receiving emails from various ski resorts boasting about their early season deals. These are obvious indications that summer is winding down and ski season is gearing up. Yes, it is difficult to envision snowflakes when you've got your toes in the water, ass in the sand, and a cold beer in your hand, but the start of the 2010/2011 KOPSC general membership meetings will surely awaken you to this reality. Our first meeting of the new season is on September 21.

The September meeting is always the most well-attended, with typically upwards towards 200 members and guests sharing summer stories, reminiscing about last season’s trips and events, and most importantly, signing up for ski trips. This is the first opportunity for new members to sign up for ski trips and for all members to sign up for most Eastern trips. Early sign ups for Western, European and the New Year’s trips are well underway for current members, so don’t delay!

The Snow Angels will again collect canned goods for local food banks. It is really easy to support this cause by bringing just a few canned or packaged food items. The Programs Committee will be selling KOPSC logo merchandise next to the sign-in table, so take time to shop. We will have a great assortment of raffle prizes and because of the large attendance and a couple significant cash prizes. Please support the club by buying raffle tickets at the sign-in table.

Finally, there is a lot of information regarding ski trips, activities and events that needs to be shared at the September 21st meeting. Karen has promised to keep announcements as brief as possible, so please be courteous to your fellow members during the official announcements.

As always, general membership meetings are held at The Jeffersonville Golf Club on the third Tuesday of each month. Beer, wine, mixed drinks and an assortment of pub style hot and cold food selections are available.
